  • TaskTo create a brand for the grass-roots political speaker.

Frederick Douglass (born Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey; c. February 1818[4] – February 20, 1895) was an African-American social reformer, abolitionist, orator, writer, and statesman. After escaping from slavery in Maryland, he became a national leader of the abolitionist movement in Massachusetts and New York, gaining note for his dazzling oratory and incisive antislavery writings.

The Conservative Messenger is a speaker whose goal was to inform about the history of African Americans in the Republican Party. Frederick Douglass was his primary example. Because of his slogan - Frederick Douglass Republican - I had something very concrete to start with. I chose to give this project a nostalgic feel. I played around with type and portrait imagery (as usual). The known portrait of Frederick Douglass helped shape the mood for this branding.
